I Just Signed Up For Bluprint Today….Hoping to Become a Better Maker!
For those of you new to this, Bluprint is a unique site dedicated to crafters. If features educational video material, various craft classes, a shop that carries craft materials, a blog, you know the whole nine yards.
I’ve been lurking and looking for awhile, but finally decided it was high time to look into subscribing.
Honestly, it’s been a pretty long time since I’ve taken art courses. Heck it might have even been during George W. Bush’s second term when I was last enrolled in something….I miss that. The online route might surprise you, I myself, am a big fan of Udemy, I never missed any of their “any class for, like $15” specials.
Also, Bluprint has courses that you can stream from your device of choice (what kind of device may affect quality, I suppose) In other words, it’s a subscription service…pretty awesome right?
Also, I think I need to broaden my horizons a little.
This evening I joined as a member, which gives me access to a 7-day free trial. As soon as I sign up, I’m prompted to choose a few interests to get started…so I begin with “drawing” “painting” and “papercrafts”. So far, so good. Now the night is still young, but I’ll clue you in on what I have discovered so far.
What Exactly is Bluprint?
Bluprint is a site dedicated to makers – you know, people like us) There are a variety of tools available for the exploring and taking, including supplies, kits, classes, and tutorials.
When you see the niche list, you just select one from the list that interests you the most, and you’ll be taken to a page showing all the relevant articles, how-to tutorials, an option to shop for materials in said niche, and the classes. From that point on, just explore and see what grabs you.
With a subscription plan, you can view the various classes, partake in something called “Own Forever” (a special thingy in which you get permanent access to one class of your choosing -not totally clear on this one, but that’s what it sounds like) and also have access to certain specialties like recipes and patterns.
Was Bluprint Once Known as “Craftsy”? Or is This Something Else?
Yes. I wasn’t totally aware of that at first…Until I noticed that all of my Craftsy banners on here were showing up as “Bluprint” Didn’t get the memo, I suppose….Oh wait, I did, just a little bit later. Starting early this year, the name Bluprint has been adopted.
Bluprint is a Subscription Service For Crafters and Makers
Just like Netflix is a subscription service, I know that’s neither here nor there, but speaking of which, I’m probably going to cancel mine, as I’ve kind of lost interest in it except for one or two shows. So basically, you get to stream video content related to the craft technique of your choosing (Or techniques – depending on what you’re up for)
(That’s cool by me, as I haven’t used IE faithfully in at least 3 years – it started giving me video related problems)
I have a Kindle tablet, and the videos always play like gangbusters…unfortunately Kindle is not supported. No biggie – I can probably have the best streaming experience on my laptop. I’ve had videos play much better on my laptop than my desktop for whatever reason I don’t know.
Anyway, I’ll fill you in on more details at a later date when I’ve gotten better acquainted with the site…I’m excited about starting a new class, though – that will probably be my first venture back there.
Hope to talk again about my Bluprint adventures again soon!
