Funny Valentine’s Day Card Ideas
Looking for some funny and humorous Valentine’s Day card ideas? Yay, You! 😍
I think this may be the first Valentine’s Day craft post I’ve done…I know I’ve covered some of the major holidays, but this one is next on my list. After Christmas, Valentine’s Day is the second biggest holiday for sending cards – are YOU ready to get your handmade on?
Do you want to send something personal and thoughtful that you made to SO’s, kids, other family members; perhaps even encourage your kids to create some of their own instead of relying on those store-bought Valentines from the local (name of store)!
This is the post that will get you started! It’ll walk you through design and layout basics….all you need to do is apply them to the Valentine’s Day occasion.
Why Funny Valentine Card Ideas?
Holidays like Valentine’s Day don’t always have to be so serious, right? How about using your creativity to get a little silly instead, and have more fun? Humor is one of my favorite things in life, after crafting!♥️
Do you also relate, but have trouble coming up with some fun, humorous ideas, for designs, messages or greetings? You don’t have to be a professional comic to write funny and witty Valentine’s Day card greetings. You just have to have a certain angle….One of them is funny AND punny.
What does “punny” mean, you ask? I know I use puns…sometimes in my post titles, like the one about quilling paper: “What is Quilling? It’s a twist on paper!” In other words – two meanings, quilling is an artform, you use paper and it’s curled and twisted to get those designs, and a “twist” also means a new way of doing things.
Not to get off track too much – that’s just an example of how to take that approach with your card messages!
Funny puns make great Valentine’s cards – and they will make great gifts too!
Now I’d like to reintroduce you again to Sharri’s Berries again, who shared these really good printable Valentine ideas…They are focused on using food and word puns. Fruits and veggies are great fodder for funny wordplay!
You can download some of these adorable foodie characters to put in your loved one’s lunchbox, etc., and it will be sure to bring a smile and a chuckle!
Would you like to do something similar to that? You can!🍎
Food has SO many puns just waiting for you to use…
Here are some great examples of funny food puns with romantic-themed messages:
“We Were Mint To Be Together” (like spearmint, ya dig? )
“You’re the Apple of My Eye”🍏
“Don’t Go Bacon My Heart” (That’s the name of a song, but you get the idea)
Fruits and veggies lend themselves to lots of funny puns! Printables are really hot right now…you can also print them out on cardstock if you want them to be sturdier for Valentine gift-giving.
Animal – Themed Funny Valentine Card Ideas
I incorporated a few funny love puns into some of my products in my Etsy shop. Because I wanted to stay consistent with my theme, which is animals – I used a lot of funny and punny animal messages. Here are 2 of mine that would be great Valentine’s Day material!
(No this is not a shameless self promotion; as they really do tie in with the subject of card ideas!) I used Photoshop to do both of them – all it took was my imagination, a few vector images that were licensed for commercial use (since I am selling them on Etsy) and the text tool. Bada-bing!
Other Ideas – Inanimate Objects Can Be Funny Too!
For some reason…if you are a Simpsons fan, do you remember a certain episode in which the character Ralph doesn’t get any Valentines at school and then Lisa gives him one out of pity that says “I Choo-Choo Choose You” which leads to an unrequited crush on her…but that’s another story.
The point is that was a great example of simple objects with a funny twist on them.
What else can you come up with besides fruit, veggies, candy, or critters? ……ordinary objects can work very well here too.
“I Totally Dig You” (include a picture of a steam shovel)
“We Have Real Chemistry Together” (include a picture of a lab beaker or liquid flask, some kinds of science lab equipment)
“We’ve Got a Great Connection” (Pictures of signals like Wi-Fi….I think you can easily find a piece of clipart that resembles this)
Here’s a couple of off-the-cuff ideas I came up with on my own to show you the different possibilities.
How YOU Can Get Started Making Funny Valentine Cards!
If you want to follow in my footsteps, all you will need is some imagination, some vector images you have permission to download and use (like from Creative Commons, or a public domain repository) and access to a designing platform like these to carry them out.
But did you know that some places have lots of pre-included images ready at your fingertips? I use Picmonkey on a daily basis and there are scads of little images that would be great for Valentine’s Day. Just take a look at these adorable hearts!
And that’s not all, there are lots of cute food, sweet, critter and pet images that would be great to combine with funny messages! Experiment with the different fonts and see what you can come up with.
When you are pleased with what you have come up with, save it on your hard drive somewhere and print out on some cardstock of your choosing….colors like white, pale pink, or pale yellow would be good to use.
So What Are YOU Going To Make For Your Valentine This Year?
